    Privacy Policy

    Last updated: June 7, 2026

Phinance ("we", "us", or "our") is a personal-finance app that helps you track accounts, budgets, transactions, subscriptions, and shared expenses with friends. This policy explains what information the Phinance mobile app collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Phinance you agree to the practices described here.

    Information we collect

    Account information

When you sign in (including via Google Sign-In), we collect your name, email address, and profile photo through Firebase Authentication. This is used to create and secure your account. You may also optionally provide a phone number; we store it to link your account and to let friends find and invite you to shared expenses by phone. Providing a phone number is optional.

    Financial information you enter

Transactions, account balances, budgets, subscriptions, and scanned receipts that you create are stored locally on your device. This data is not uploaded to our servers. The exception is shared-expense ("split") data — see below.

    Shared-expense (split) data

When you split an expense with friends, the details needed to settle that split (amounts, participants, and related notes) are synchronized to our secure backend (Google Firestore) so that the people you split with can see them. Only split-related data is synced; your personal transactions, accounts, and budgets remain on your device.

    Contacts

With your permission, we access your device contacts so you can choose friends to split expenses with. Contact information is used only to match and invite people to a split and is not sold or used for advertising.

    Receipt images and the camera

When you scan a receipt, the image is sent to Google's Gemini model (via Firebase AI) to automatically extract transaction details such as merchant, amount, and date. Camera and photo-library access is used only for this feature and only when you initiate it.

    Voice input

The AI copilot supports voice input. Speech recognition is performed on your device using your operating system's speech-to-text capability; we do not store raw audio recordings.

    Notifications

We use Firebase Cloud Messaging to send notifications (for example, when a friend adds you to a split). This requires a device notification token, which is associated with your account.

    Diagnostics and usage analytics

We use Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics to collect crash reports and aggregated usage data (such as feature interactions and device/app version). This helps us fix bugs and improve the app. We also use Firebase Remote Config to deliver in-app content and run experiments.

    Subscriptions and purchases

Phinance offers optional paid plans. Payments are processed entirely by the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store — we do not receive or store your payment card or bank details. We do store a record of your subscription status (your plan tier and its expiry) associated with your account so we can unlock paid features across your devices.

    How we use your information

    • To provide and operate the app's features.
    • To sync shared-expense data with people you split with.
    • To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
    • To send you relevant notifications.
    • To diagnose problems and improve performance and features.

    Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers that power the app — primarily Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Messaging, Crashlytics, Analytics, Remote Config, App Check) and Google's Gemini model for receipt parsing — and only as needed to provide the service. We may disclose information if required by law.

    Data security

Data transmitted to our backend is encrypted in transit. We use Firebase App Check to help protect our backend from abuse. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

    Data retention and deletion

Device-local data is removed when you delete the app or clear its data. You can request deletion of your account and the shared-expense data associated with it by contacting us at ceo.office@phinance.app, or follow the steps on our account deletion and data deletion pages. We will delete such data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

    Children's privacy

Phinance is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

    Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above when we do.
